Diplomatic immunity as an institution developed to allow for the maintenance of government relations, including during periods of difficulties and even armed conflict. When receiving diplomats — formally, representatives of the sovereign (head of state) — the receiving head of state grants certain privileges and immunities to ensure that they may effectively carry out their duties, on the understanding that these will be provided on a reciprocal basis.

Diplomatic immunity is important to maintain good relations between nations. If you arrest a diplomat from Turkey, Turkey will likely arrest your diplomat. Many wars have been started over such diplomatic misundersstandings. To prevent such occurences, countries grant diplomatic immunity. However, there should be limits. Speeding is hardly significant. Causing an accident and killing someone, is. The difference should be based on whether or not the crime harmed someone else substantially.

Diplomatic immunity is important in ensuring that the processes of diplomacy are conducted appropriately. Providing immunity for diplomats is an important principal because in return you will then be able to demand that foreign governments do the same for its diplomat. Diplomatic immunity is also a valuable and an essential feature of our relations with foreign nations. Diplomatic immunity is not meant to benefit individuals personally; it is meant to ensure that foreign officials can do their jobs.

Diplomatic immunity is so that person can conduct realtions with one another and it you arrest the diplomat then that could start a war or tension for both countries. Also, arresting a diplomat in your country can cause trouble for your diplomats in that country. making it unsafe.

Countries with normal political relations provide immunity to the diplomats so that the in case the diplomat does something illegal in the country he or she is serving in then that person will not need to be replaced if put in prison. A time when diplomatic immunity would not be appropriate is if someone commited murder.

Diplomatic immunity is an exemption from taxation and ordinary legal processes given to dipolomatic personnel in a foreign country. A diplomatic immunity might be used in a country that needs support or help from danger, or legal matters at hand. Protection, and inforcing what needs to be done, quickly, so things can move on for whatever it may be at that time.

Diplomatic immunity ensures that diplomats are given safe passage and are considered not susceptible to lawsuit or prosecution under the host country's laws. Diplomatic immunity is ofttimes abused though, and if there is too much abuse then diplomats can be declared unwelcome in the host country. Such abuse can include traffic violations, espionage, smuggling, and even violent crime such as murder.
